Soild
Towering
Stretching as far as I can imagine
The Wall blocks all view, all sound
And casts a far-reaching shadow.

An inexplicable creation
It has always been here
Since I was old enough to think
Or at least attempt to
But how can I when there is this Wall?
This seemingly neverending mass
Of contradictions and conceits
This structure which encompasses all
A truly grand design
This cold, insurmountable, warm and alluring
Wall?

I step closer, hoping to find a weak spot.
As I draw nearer, connections become apparent;
Stacked on top of each other, a zig-zag pattern,
None truly unique or important
Yet as you draw closer, you begin to experience the common delusion
That maybe, just maybe, that One there is important, or that one unique
Or that one showing the strain of years in the same posistion. But not really.
True, some are brighter, some are darker
Some show the cracks and wear of time.
But up close, as close as I am now
You can see that none are really different
To those surrounding each one.

But my God, to be a part of the Wall!
To feel that strength, that sense of belonging
That knowledge that no matter what happens
You will be never be thrown to the ground or disregarded
Not when you slot into a section and stay there.
In your youth you are told to think outside the box
To be your own person
If that is true, why are we not nomads or to a man
Nerve-wrecked recluses?
It is because of the want to belong
The desire and skill to fit into a section and maintain the links with others
No matter what hits you, be it a man-made object or natural erosion.
I find nothing new in the part I am focused on
Would like to say I saw a crack, a weak spot I can break through
To find a way beyond the Wall
